Job Information

The Coordinator, Apprenticeship, Trades and Occupation Certification is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, administration and communication of apprenticeship, skilled trades and occupations certification programs and industrial skills training strategies in the Northwest Territories.

Located in Yellowknife, this position reports to the Manager, Apprenticeship, Trades and Occupation Certification. You will be responsible for coordination, development and maintenance of territorial and national industry standards and associated training programs.The Coordinator takes a lead in the on-going maintenance as well as research, design, and development of programming for existing and emerging trades and designated occupations. This includes the development and implementation of certification initiatives for trades and occupations certification and apprenticeship training.

The Coordinator plays a critical role in communicating and engaging industry, training providers and other provincial and federal government departments to ensure that the NWT's high standard of apprenticeship and related training is maintained and enhanced.

This position may require the incumbent to travel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES should include: 
• Knowledge of program development, implementation, and monitoring.
• Knowledge in adult development theory and alternative methods of training.
• Knowledge in the development of skilled trade and occupation training programs.
• Thorough understanding of learner assessment principles and experience in developing course outlines, examinations and other instruments used to evaluate learning.
• Knowledge of and/or the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of skilled trades and occupation standards, certification models and processes, examination development, legislation, policies and guidelines.
• Computer skills with a working knowledge of computer software systems (i.e. MS Office Suite, electronic client management system and /or program-specific software programs).
• Ability to apply a team-based approach when working with colleagues.
• Ability to facilitate meeting discussions and lead groups with different viewpoints toward consensus.
• Ability to research, analyze and evaluate information and data from a variety of sources.

To be successful in this role,  typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A Diploma in Education, Adult Education or Social Sciences, and two (2) years of experience in program management, development, and evaluation.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $53.24 per hour to $63.60 per hour (approximately $103,818 - $124,020) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
