It’s time for the unveiling folks. We are lifting the virtual curtain on our new website, EDGEYK.COM…drumroll please, trumpet fanfare…
Part-newspaper, part-magazine, part-community portal, our digital format also introduces EDGE TV – hosted by the hub to our wheel, founder and publisher Brent Reaney, in collaboration with the production talents of aRTLeSS Collective’s, Pablo Saravanja and Jay Bulckaert. Brent will be writing more opinion columns too, along with Chris Windeyer and Jack Danylchuk, and each week you’ll get an exclusive satirical take on YK from the Flamin’ Raven.
EDGEYK.COM has stories you won’t be able to find anywhere else, told in a way that distinguishes us as the place to get the information you need to make the most of life in the ‘Knife. Plus, we promise some of the most stunning visual art you will ever see.
In the nearly three years we’ve been publishing YK’s coolest magazine, a lot of people have asked us to go monthly. We thought about that, but decided what’s truly needed in this dynamic city is a resource that provides you with news, opinion, arts, sports and business stories, as well as a super-up-to-date events calendar EVERY DAY. All of it solely dedicated to the place you live.
Because actual newspapers are fast being replaced by digital devices, you can only get this important new service online. And unlike this beloved magazine (which will still be mailed to every home and available in print and in racks around town, free, same as always), we are charging a small subscription fee – $59.40/year or $4.95/month. Why?
We have chosen a model that’s ultra-light on advertising, and beholden only to you. Our content sets itself apart in that we don’t have to answer to a corporation or management board…we do what we want, nimbly, within the boundaries of good journalism and innovative story-telling. We can tell it like it is. We’ve also hired Mark Rendell – a full-time reporter with discerning curiosity – to comb city hall and the legislature; and Angela Gzowski is joining our own Pat Kane to make one uber-talented photography team.
Our EVENTS page and some downloads will be free. And you can get three articles a month without a subscription. But we really hope you will see the value in signing up so we can keep doing what we do. EDGEYK.COM partners great with your morning coffee to start planning your day.
As for the online version of EDGEYK magazine, all issues are now only available on the new website, in easily searchable chunks. This one is insanely good: diverse, informative, entertaining, just like its many contributors.
That comes as no surprise. Marshall McLuhan, the man who in 1967 declared “the medium is the message,” also defined the medium as “any extension of ourselves.” You, dear reader, are EDGEYK.
