Even the “glass is half-full” kind of people must have been disparaging the local weather in June (especially if their glasses started filling up then spilled over and flooded their basements). Torrential rains felt monsoon-like, 114.1 mm in total for Yellowknife, when the average historically for the month is 28.9 mm. Even City Hall flooded. The forests were grateful for the fire reprieve and hopefully water levels have raised enough to restore hydropower; but June is supposed to be our breakout month, when we’re outside every possible second making up for Vitamin D deficits we incur over winter. Instead, many of us were hunkered inside with a good book while mosquitos raged hungrily outside our windows. Not Angela Gzowski. The intrepid photographer didn’t let the threat of rain keep her from weekend camping and canoe trips, which afforded several sunshine moments in between the cloud cover.
